Barcelona adopts ambitious strategy to reduce inequalities

On 9 April, the Barcelona City Council adopted the Barcelona Strategy for Inclusion and Reducing Inequalities. This is a 10-year strategy that will run until 2027. The strategy won the votes of all parties in the city council and the support of all social partners and civil society.

European Commission takes first steps towards a more ‘social’ European Semester

The European Commission published in March the 2018 country reports that analyse the economic and social policy reforms in EU member states and identify EU-wide trends in terms of convergence. It is for the first time that the European Pillar of Social Rights is integrated into the country reports, which shows the Commission’s commitment to use the European Semester as a key tool to implement the pillar.

Highlights of our economic development forum: ‘people, firms, places’

On 26-28 March, our economic development forum (EDF) met in Braga Portugal to discuss the role of cities in the knowledge economy. 100 participants from over 45 cities, including 11 elected city politicians, shared expertise during these three days on smart and inclusive growth, investments and translating Sustainable Development Goals into local actions; focusing on SDG 8 ‘decent work and economic growth’ and SDG 9 ‘industry, innovation and infrastructure’.
